We enter year three of partnering up with OrthoCincy Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in expanding the Team of the Week awards!
Through the first two years, $4,000 in scholarships have been handed out to the Team of the Season and Team of the Year award winners.
In order to get to that point, it starts here with the weekly Team of the Week awards.
In the same fashion as year’s past, the weekly TOW winners will then be eligible for Team of the Season. It’s typically 10 winners from that respective season that runs for fall, winter and spring sports. The Team of the Season vote comes at the end of those respective seasons where the winner is awarded a plaque and a $500 scholarship to a student-athlete of their choice.
Then it comes down to the ultimate prize…Team of the Year where the three Team of the Season winners will then be put up in a vote for another plaque for the trophy case and an additional $500 scholarship to a student-athlete of their choice.
This week’s nominated teams are listed below with some information provided by the submitter or LINK nky staff. The poll where you can vote follows at the end of the article. Some of the nominees are combined for a couple weeks with some seasons starting earlier than others.

Bellevue Football
Bellevue got its football season off on the right note with a 42-36 victory over Trimble County.
Despite having to replace 19 of 22 starters from a season ago, the Tigers offensive production was met with some timely defensive plays as well. Evan Brooks threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 37 yards. Kayden Brown and Aidyn Fortner had rushing touchdowns while Sebastion Baker cleared 100 yards receiving with two-big play catches for 115 yards, one of them resulting in a touchdown. Reggie Rolland was Brooks’ main target, hauling in seven passes for 73 yards and a score.
Kayden Brown has seven tackles, two sacks and forced a fumble with a recovery that went for a touchdown. Shawn Engle returned a kickoff for a touchdown and Jackson Israel and Bryton Ormes also recovered fumbles. Lucas Walton added six tackles and forced a fumble.
St. Henry Girls Soccer
St. Henry’s girls won the 9th Region All “A” soccer title over the weekend. They defeated Holy Cross in the chapionship, 1-0. Hayden Harlan’s goal was the lone one on the day while Kaylee Ryan earned the clean sheet and won tournament MVP.
On top of Ryan’s MVP performance, Mady Lux and Maci Garner were named to the All-Tournament team. They helped hold opponents’ to one goal in three tournament games.
In their path to the final, they defeated Beechwood 4-1 and Newport Central Catholic 2-0.
St. Henry Boys Soccer
The Crusaders were victors of the 9th Region All “A” boys soccer tournament over the weekend with a 1-0 victory over Beechwood.
Cooper Gastright converted a penalty kick for the lone score while Landon Schuler earned the clean sheet in goal.
All-Tournament team members were Landon Schmidt, Nik Maher and Connor List while Gastright won MVP honors.
Bishop Brossart Volleyball
The Lady ‘Stangs volleyball team opened up 3-0 in the first week with wins over Dayton, Holy Cross and Conner.
Leading the attack has been Callie Ritter and Evelyn Laker with 26 and 22 kills, respectively. Aubrey Rebholz has been setting them up with 54 assists. Grace Frommeyer keyed the defense with 42 digs. Laker leads in the service department with five aces while Rebholz, Josie Reckner and Audrey Arnold have four aces apiece.
Newport Central Catholic Volleyball
NewCath is off to a 2-0 start with wins over Villa Madonna and Oldenburg Academy.
Maddie Sandfoss tallied 23 kills in the first two matches, Isabella Schaber with 20, Miley Wolf with 14 and Maura Franzen 11.
Kolbey Kohrs leads the way with 70 assists and also seven aces. Jordyn Reckers leads the defense with 32 digs.
Cooper Football
In their 28-21 season opening win over Chrsitian County, the Jaguars overcame many obstacles.
The first was a four-hour bus ride. The second was playing in front of a team that was playing their first ever regular season game and the third was an early 14-0 deficit.
Despite all that, the Jaguars prevailed for a 28-21 victory to start off Michael Begley’s head coaching career with a W.
In the win, Zach Kostopolous threw for 138 yards and a touchdown. Corey Freihofer was on the receiving end for 126 yards and a touchdown, also adding two rushing touchdowns. Kody Meyer led the rushing attack with 71 yards and a score.
Christian Inanbit led the defense with 10 tackles while Carson Clark tallied three tackles for loss. In all, the Jags tallied nine tackles for loss.
