FORT MITCHELL, Ky. — When an unexpected kitchen equipment failure threatened meal preparation at DCCH Center earlier this spring, the Northern Kentucky community responded with overwhelming generosity, ensuring that every child in care continued to receive nutritious, home-cooked meals.
In early March, DCCH Center celebrated receiving a grant that covered nearly half the cost of replacing its decades-old commercial oven and cooktop. However, shortly after installation, the brand-new stove was determined to be inoperable, leaving the organization without a functioning commercial cooking system.
While DCCH worked to resolve the issue and secure a replacement, the needs of the children remained unchanged. Every day, 32 children and dozens of staff members depended on the kitchen to provide three daily meals.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, DCCH Board Members and supporters shared the organization’s need on social media, asking the community for help.
The response was immediate.
Within 12 hours, more than 300 messages were received from individuals and organizations offering support through meal donations, financial gifts, prayers, volunteer assistance, and connections to additional resources. What was initially expected to be a month-long challenge ultimately lasted more than 75 days, making the community’s continued generosity even more meaningful.
Thanks to the support of donors, volunteers, local businesses, and community partners, DCCH was able to provide meals without interruption while a new commercial stove was purchased and installed. Today, the kitchen is once again fully operational.

We are deeply grateful for everyone who helped us through this journey.”
Since the new stove was installed, the kitchen staff has happily returned to preparing home-cooked meals, serving more than 50 meals with the new equipment. The children have been especially excited to welcome their favorite dishes back to the menu, and keep asking the kitchen team, “What are you cooking next?”
The experience served as a powerful reminder of the strength and compassion of the Northern Kentucky community.
DCCH Center extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed by providing meals, making donations, assisting with the purchase and installation of the new equipment, sharing the organization’s message, or keeping the children and staff in their prayers.
The generosity shown over the past several months allowed for far more than full bellies – it reminded DCCH Center’s staff and children that they are surrounded by a community that cares.
