The Covington Department of Neighborhood Services asked the Covington City Commission for approval to demolish four properties throughout the city at the commission meeting Tuesday night.

All four requests for demolition were placed on the consent agenda for the legislative meeting next week on June 13, meaning the commission will likely vote to approve the demolitions.

“What I am asking for tonight is the permission to approve the process,” said Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services Walter Mace, who made the requests to the commission. “Just so everybody understands, before anything is demolished by neighborhood services it has to be reviewed and be approved by the legal department.”

The houses are either abandoned or damaged beyond repair. Two of the properties have fire damage, one has a broken foundation and the other has a roof that’s about to collapse, Mace said.

This is the first time Covington has heard a request for demolition since 2017, when the city revised its procedures to only allow demolition when approved by the board of commissioners.

Neighborhood Services asked for demolition approval for the following Covington properties:

  • 1815 Jefferson Ave.
  • 2718 Madison Ave.
  • 4205 Decoursey Ave.
  • 4309 Huntington Ave.

Pictures of the properties are below. Mace said that once approved the demolitions should be completed by Thanksgiving.
