Boone County Schools Superintendent Matthew Turner announced his retirement on Friday afternoon, effective at the end of the current school year.
“After 33 fulfilling years in education as a superintendent, a high school principal, an assistant principal, a teacher and a coach, the time has come for me to bid farewell and to embrace the joys of retirement at the end of the 2023-24 school year,” Turner said via a message on the school district’s YouTube channel. “I look forward to spending more time with my family, my friends, serving the members of my church and continuing to serve the Boone County community.”
Turner began his tenure as the school district’s superintendent in July 2020, having previously served as principal at Ryle High School.
“To everyone I express my deepest gratitude,” Turner said. “I will always cherish both the personal and professional relationships that I developed over the last three decades of my career.”
Serving as superintendent has been an honor and privilege, Turner said.
“I look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of this remarkable educational community,” Turner said. “Here’s to the next chapter for each of us and to the bright future of this extraordinary school district.”
