Two women found dead inside a Newport home last week have been identified and now a Newport man faces murder charges.
Newport Police said Wednesday that Sheila Ruf, 59, and Diana Eddy, 61, were named as the people found dead at 737 Ann Street on March 16.
When the investigation started last week, police were unwilling to release any relevant information citing privacy of the victims’ families.
On Tuesday, however, after days of collecting evidence and conducting an investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for Eric Douglas Lightfoot, 59, of Newport.
Lightfoot was arrested and is being held at the Campbell County Detention Center on $2 million bond. He faces two counts of murder.
Lightfoot is scheduled to be arraigned in Campbell District Court on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
The Newport Police Department said that the investigation is still active and ongoing but does not believe that there is any current danger to the community.
