Ludlow City Council voted last week to appoint Brian Bumgarner to the vacant city council seat previously held by Abby Miller.

Miller resigned from her seat on Ludlow City Council on June 11 after missing several council meetings. When a council member resigns, it falls to the remaining council members to appoint a replacement to serve out the remainder of the term. Any resident over the age of 18 who’s registered to vote in the city can be appointed.

The council solicited resumes from interested residents following Miller’s resignation, and the city received many resumes expressing interest to fill the vacant position.

Council Member Stephen Chapman Sr. nominated Bumgarner.

“I think he gave a very good resume,” Chapman Sr. said.

Bumgarner is also one of nine candidates running for a seat on the city council in November. He is a comparatively new resident to the city, although he said his wife was born and raised in Ludlow. He also said his “in laws have been active volunteers in Ludlow for over 50 years, and I understand the significance and importance of community involvement.”

“The dedication to orderly fiscal management and community improvement is what motivates me to work in public service,” Bumgarner said in an email to LINK nky. “However, for me personally, I want to make sure the city’s revenue and expenses are managed efficiently in order for Ludlow to have financial stability for years to come. This includes a thorough examination of all budget line items from the top down and bottom up.”

Bumgarner will serve in the council seat for the rest of the year and appear on the ballot in November. Use LINK nky’s candidate search tool to find all of the candidates running for office in the three counties.
