The LINK nky Team of the Week for August 17-23 presented by Ortho Cincy is the St. Henry boys soccer team.
A bonus for the St. Henry boys soccer team is that they are now eligible for Team of the Season (TOS) for the fall sports season. The weekly nominations and winners for fall will run in to November. A vote will follow for TOS when the fall sports season is wrapped up to determine the winner. The winner for TOS will then be one of three nominees for Team of the Year voting in June. Each TOS winner will receive a $500 scholarship that will go to an athlete of their choice.
For the team that is awarded TOY, online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year. The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.
St. Henry Boys Soccer
The Crusaders were victors of the 9th Region All “A” boys soccer tournament Aug. 22 with a 1-0 victory over Beechwood.
Cooper Gastright converted a penalty kick for the lone score while Landon Schuler earned the clean sheet in goal. They also defeated Holy Cross (8-0) and Newport Central Catholic (5-1) on their way to the title.
All-Tournament team members were Landon Schmidt, Nik Maher and Connor List while Gastright won MVP honors.
Congratulations to our other nominees as well: Newport Central Catholic volleyball, St. Henry girls soccer, Cooper football, Bishop Brossart volleyball and Bellevue football.
