Northern Kentucky Rep. Stephanie Dietz honored Covington Mayor Ron Washington on Tuesday night for becoming the city’s first Black mayor and for a lifetime of leadership achievements. Dietz, an Edgewood Republican representing Kentucky’s 65th House District, presented Washington with a special recognition during the event.
Dietz had already read the citation at the Kentucky House in Frankfort in February during Black History Month, but this was the first time the accolade had been presented locally.
“It’s my privilege to represent a city that’s rich in history, resilience and progress, and in this moment we recognize a mayor whose leadership reflects the very spirit of Black History Month: perseverance, service and a commitment to lifting others up as he climbs,” Dietz said, reading from the citation. “Mayor Washington has dedicated his life to public service, not for recognition but for results.”
Dietz also gave a brief summary of this year’s legislative session. Another Kentucky Representative, Kim Moser, gave a similar summary earlier this month. Dietz complimented the city’s leadership for being easier to work with.
“Mayor Washington and his team stayed in constant contact with me throughout this legislative session,” Dietz said. “It makes my job easier to do in so many ways, and I really appreciate the partnership that I have with Covington.”
