The NAMI Northern Kentucky, the region’s local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is hosting its annual fundraiser walk.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness is the largest grassroots organization in the United States for individuals dealing with mental illness and their families. The walk serves as the organization’s main fundraiser.
NAMI Northern Kentucky Executive Director Danei Edelen said funds raised help sustain services that reach people living with mental illness and their families in Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton counties.
“The funds raised are important to our continuing capacity to provide our free services in Northern Kentucky,” she said. “We seek to build and develop a welcoming and active support community, and this walk is a significant part of that process.”
The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., supports the group’s free education programs and support groups for individuals living with mental illness and their families across eight Northern Kentucky counties. On-site registration starts at 9 a.m. at Pioneer Park, located at 3952 Madison Pike in Covington. The walk will begin at 10:15 a.m. A puppet show for children will be followed by lunch at noon.
