After struggling to coordinate veterinary services across a busy network of clinics, Campbell County is turning to Boone County for a one-stop solution.
The Boone County Fiscal Court has hired a full-time vet as part of its animal services department. The Campbell County Fiscal Court approved an agreement at a meeting on Aug. 20 to use those services for animals in the care of Campbell County Animal Services. According to the county, it will result in more consistent and reliable veterinary care at or below current costs.
Currently, the county has a network of vets it uses for various things, such as spaying and neutering, and other surgeries. Campbell County Administrator Matt Elberfeld said the county spends a lot of time trying to schedule those surgeries and on transport.
The agreement with Boone County allows Campbell County to pay them the same or less than their current payment for all its vet services, but in one place.
Elberfeld said the county sent out requests for information to many local vets to ensure none were overlooked.
“None of them had responded back,” Elberfeld said. “They’re all very busy, and therefore, I think it makes sense for us to go with Boone County. It’ll be more efficient and cheaper for us.”
