The Kenton County Board of Education approved design documents for two renovation projects at its meeting on Monday night: one for Piner Elementary School and the other for White’s Tower Elementary.
The approvals follow the board’s decision in May to begin the process of making renovation plans. Both projects are slated to begin this fall, either in October or November, ideally before winter break, said district Chief Operations Officer Matt Rigg.
The work at Piner is an augmentation to renovations that began about three to four years ago, Rigg said, which missed some key parts of the school, namely the gym, parts of the restroom facilities, some areas of the parking lot, as well as interior and exterior work here and there.
“This will wrap up everything that needs to be taken care of at Piner for the foreseeable future,” Rigg said, adding the work should take about a year to a year and four months to complete.
The work at White’s Tower, on the other hand, will focus mostly on HVAC improvements, wiring, various interior and exterior improvements and an upgraded entryway, which, Rigg said, would not only look better but would also provide a better vantage for security cameras.
The work at White’s Tower is scheduled to begin in fall around the same time as the work on Piner, although Rigg said the work at White’s Tower would likely take longer, up to a year and a half.
