Covington Latin School honored five alumni and one honorary alumna at its annual Alumni Banquet Thursday night.

Awards are given to distinguished alumni in three different categories, corresponding to the three values in the school’s Latin motto: bonitatem et disciplinam et scientiam, doce me, which translates to ‘teach me goodness, discipline and knowledge’ in English. One alumnus is honored in each category in addition to an award for a young alumnus and overall distinguished alumnus. There’s a separate category for honorary alumni who did not graduate from the school but are active in its community.

Erlanger City Councilmember Tyson Hermes, who won the Bonitatem award for goodness based on his role as a public servant, spoke with LINK nky about the honor. In addition to his current role on council, Hermes formerly served as the city’s mayor. He’s also active in scholarship fundraising for the school. He graduated in 1990.

“It was a nice recognition,” Hermes told LINK nky.
