Kenton County is seeking a project manager to help build out its newest public park.
On Tuesday, the Kenton County Fiscal Court passed a memorandum that allows them to proceed with soliciting bids for an owner representative to manage the new park’s architectural, engineering, and construction teams which have also yet to be selected.
A request for proposal, or RFP, will be posted on the county’s procurement website sometime next week. Bids are expected to be due in October.
The prospective park is located at 604 Independence Station Road in Independence. The 225-acre property is the former home of the shuttered Fox Run Golf Course. Since the golf course closed, the property has been open to the public for hiking, fishing and other recreation.
The property is adjacent to the 78-acre Lincoln Ridge Park. Kenton County plans to connect the two areas and, upon completion of the new park, rebrand them as one unified recreation area.
The RFP details the scope of work for the owner representative, which includes assisting Kenton County officials in developing the master plan for the new park, providing recommendations on design, amenities, and facilities, managing the construction process and project timeline, and coordinating and managing the general contractor, design team, consultants and engineers among other obligations.
Additionally, the owner representative will assist Kenton County in the hiring process for the project’s general contractor, design team, consultants, and engineers.
In October 2022, Cincinnati-based planning and design firm Human Nature presented a master plan for the new park to the Kenton County Fiscal Court. The master plan highlights include adding a lake, hillside amphitheater, zipline tower, ropes course, family shelter, community gardens, and a mountain biking hub.
