Dayton’s police K-9 Officer Cooper has graduated from the North American Police Working Dog Association with a certificate in narcotic detection and searching.
City officials held a ceremony for him at their Sept. 10 council meeting.
Officer Cooper, an English Labrador, joined the police department in October last year and has been working with his partner, officer Robert Spears. He has trained as a therapy dog as well and is already a favorite at local schools and events.
For the event, Officer Cooper walked in with Spears to the tune “Pomp and Circumstance” and received his diploma.
“Congratulations. Now Cooper is an official canine cop,” said Mayor Ben Baker.
