Matthew Schnapp, a 22-year-old former assistant with the marching band program at both Highlands High School and Highlands Middle School, was arrested on Wednesday on possession of child porn.
LINK’s media partner WCPO reported that in a letter to families, Fort Thomas Independent Schools Superintendent Brian Robinson said that once the district was made aware of the arrest, they issued Schnapp a termination letter, effective immediately.
The investigation proceeded from a tip the Kenton County Police Department received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which had flagged Schnapp’s accounts as uploading child porn onto the internet.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office assisted in Schnapp’s arrest at a property in the Harvest Hill subdivision. He was charged with 30 counts of possessing child porn and 30 counts of distributing it; both sets of charges involve minors under 12 years of age. He is currently being held at the Kenton County Detention Center, and his bond has yet to be set.
In the letter, Robinson said there is no knowledge that the matters involve any Fort Thomas Independent Schools students.
“We urge you to please come forward and report if there are any concerns,” Robinson said. “The district pledges our unconditional cooperation to support law enforcement authorities in their criminal investigation. Any students and families that have been impacted and who would like mental and emotional support should contact their school principals.”
The investigation is still ongoing, and the Kenton County Police Department asks anyone with information about Schnapp to call Kenton County Detective Wallace at (859)392-1952.
