Kenton County Animal Services will waive their adoption fees from July 11 to July 16 in conjunction with the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event. Standard screening will still apply.

“This event with the BISSELL Pet Foundation couldn’t come at a better time,” Kenton County Animal Services Director Kelsey Maccombs said in a press release. “We often see a jump in intake levels during the summer months, particularly with kittens, and being able to reduce the financial barrier to adopting is a huge help in getting these pets out of our care and into loving homes.”

The BISSELL Pet Foundation is a nonprofit foundation out of Michigan aimed at reducing shelter populations. Their Empty the Shelters event is the largest adoption event in the country.

More than 253,000 pets have been adopted out since the event’s beginning in 2016. Ninety pets from Kenton County Animal Services were placed into homes during the agency’s first event with BISSELL in October. In May, a follow-up event resulted in nearly 40 adoptions.

Kenton County Animal Services is located at 1020 Mary Laidley Drive in Covington. It is open to the public from 12 noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

You can check out any of the pets currently available for adoption by visiting Kenton County Animal Service’s ‘Meet Our Pets.’ search page.
