The city of Covington’s first clean audit since 1995 was presented to the board of commissioners Tuesday evening.
During the meeting, Steve Webb, the city’s finance director, introduced Morgan Ryle of Barnes Dennig Accounting, who was a part of the team that performed the 2023 fiscal year financial audit on the city of Covington. Ryle reported a clean opinion on all financial statements and on all major federal programs.
The Covington Board of Commissioners and city staff met Saturday to discuss the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, where they discussed the city’s overall financial health, spending goals for next year and ways to control expenses.
No official action was taken at the meeting, but it shed light on what the city was hoping for in the next budget cycle.
“We’re just going to keep a list of decisions that need to be made,” said Mayor Joe Meyer at the beginning of the meeting. “That way we make sure that we don’t run out of money.”

“There were not any deficiencies that were found, and any that were there before have been cleaned up, ” Ryle said. “We did not see any this year.”
This represented their first clean audit in around 20 years, dating back to 1995, which Mayor Joseph Meyer said is a significant achievement.
