Crestview Hills has approved a city noise ordinance that will soon go into effect.

This ordinance regulates noise within the city limits, including noises from vehicles, construction, music and voices. Violations can result in fines increasing with each offense; fines start at $50 for the first offense and increase to $100 for the second, then $500 for the third and following.

“If you can hear the music or what’s going on 15 feet outside of the car or the house, then you’ve got a problem,” Mayor Paul Meier said at the city’s April City Council meeting.

The city of Crestview Hills’ police department works jointly with Lakeside Park’s department as the Lakeside Park-Crestview Hills Police Department. Due to this partnership, Meier says Lakeside Park is also discussing the addition of the ordinance to make complaints to the police department can be made smoother.

A date for when the ordinance will go into effect has not been announced.
