Former presidential candidate and congressman Ron Paul has endorsed Jeremy Todd to replace outgoing Rep. Thomas Massie.
Todd is the Libertarian Party candidate in the upcoming general election for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District, which includes Northern Kentucky. He entered the race after Massie lost to former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein in May’s Republican primary.
Paul, the father of current U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, is a longtime libertarian who has endorsed numerous libertarian-leaning candidates, including Massie, in national elections.
“We truly stand on the shoulders of giants, and there are none bigger than Ron Paul,” Todd said in a statement acknowledging Paul’s endorsement. “I am honored beyond words to receive his endorsement, so I’ll borrow a few of his: LET IT NEVER BE SAID THAT WE DID NOTHING!”
Paul represented Texas’s 22nd Congressional District from 1976 to 1977 and 1979 to 1985, and its 14th Congressional District from 1997 to 2013. He ran for president three times, first as the Libertarian Party nominee in 1988 and later as a Republican in 2008 and 2012. Paul is widely regarded as a major pillar in the American libertarian movement.
Todd’s candidacy is centered on courting disaffected voters who previously supported Massie on ideological grounds. Todd told LINK nky in June that he supports many of Massie’s policy positions, including reducing federal spending and opposing U.S. military interventions in the Middle East.
Todd will appear on the general election ballot alongside Gallrein, the Republican nominee, and Democrat Melissa Strange. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
