The City of Covington will hold a public hearing at the Hellmann Creative Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to allow the community to give input on how to spend federal money.

Specifically, the hearing will focus on using federal HOME and Community Development Block Grant, or CDBG, funding.

Covington aims to move the money towards various initiatives for housing affordability, such as grants to help people purchase houses, emergency repairs and similar projects for qualifying residents. The city expects an allocation of $3.5 million, but this figure is not final.

All Covington residents are welcome to attend the hearing and speak. Residents who cannot attend the hearing can also submit feedback using the city’s online contact form. To get an idea of how the city has spent the money in the past, read the current year’s spending plan here.
