The Independence City Council completed a first reading of the city’s new trailer ordinance at their meeting Monday night.
The new ordinance has been in the works for over a year and has gone through multiple proposals and revisions. In January, the Kenton County Planning Commission voted down the most recent revision; many planning commission members thought the regulations undermined the residential character of Independence neighborhoods.
The council needs at least four votes in favor of the ordinance to override the planning commission’s recommendation. The council will complete a second reading and cast a vote on the ordinance at their meeting on Monday, March 4, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Independence City Building on Madison Pike.
