The deed is done. The regular season is complete.

It’s now win or go home. We made it through 11 weeks of the regular season, and now it’s on to the journey of Kroger Field the first weekend in December.

Each week, throughout the season, make sure to come here on Monday’s to check out the weekly standouts and 10 takeaways from Friday night.

We’ll highlight the 200-yard passers, 100-yard rushers, 100-yard receivers, defensive standouts and kicking standouts.

First and 10 (10 takeaways from Friday night and beyond)

  1. Beechwood closed out its first undefeated regular season since 2021 with a 62-6 victory over Campbell County. The Tigers have outscored the opponent 546-51 this season. For you math wizards, that’s an average score of 54.6 to 5.1 every Friday night.
  2. The first round of the playoffs doesn’t provide many quality games, but look no further than a pair of Class A matchups. Ludlow at Newport and Dayton at Bishop Brossart are probably your two best first round playoff games in NKY.
  3. With that said, 20 of the 22 NKY teams in Boone, Campbell and Kenton County are in the postseason. Boone County and Holmes (second year of opt out of district play) are the only two teams not in it.
  4. Speaking of Boone County, the swan song for Rebels running back Malik Johnson was the senior ending with 1,550 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns this season, the yards put him fourth in the state. He finished his high school career with 3,212 rushing yards.
  5. We will forecast the region championship round after the first round of the playoffs. Look out for that next week. Keep in mind, that’s when brackets re-seed for each class. Regions 1-4 and 5-8 in each class will be re-bracketed. The top two seeds in each side of their region will host games. Come the state semifinal round, it’s re-seeded statewide.
  6. Conner’s Jasiah Lampkin was a workhorse in their 54-29 victory over Henry Clay. He ran the ball 34 times for 281 yards and four touchdowns.
  7. Scott’s Samuel Ishmael finished the regular season second in the state with 148 tackles, 93 of them solo tackles.
  8. Beechwood’s Jack Mercer led the state in extra-point attempts (72) and extra-points made (68).
  9. Look out for District Player and Coach of the Year awards this week. The eight awarded would then be eligible for Player/Coach of the Year in their respective class.
  10. There’s 92 first round playoff games spread out through the 16 classes. Over/under on 60 of them with a running clock?
