The Campbell County School District is replacing the original auditorium lighting in Campbell County High School, which is approaching 30 years old.

The district worked with Shrout Tate Wilson Consulting Engineers and REH&A Architects to develop the project’s design, which includes power controls, distribution devices, equipment, demolition, electric control devices, training, system start-up, labor, and warranties.

The school board voted Tuesday to award the bid to United Electric for a total cost of $626,322.080.

“We knew when we went out for bids that this was an expensive project,” Campbell County Board of Education Chair Kimber Fender said.

Fender said during an October board meeting that the project was initially estimated at $275,000 before a request for proposal.

“Our Campbell County theatre arts students are impressively talented, and they will greatly benefit from this,” Schools and Community Education Director Courtney Sauerbeck said. “Student-generated and driven lighting production will also prepare students for careers and college. Several other programs and educators also use this space, and the lighting will be an asset for all. For example, our Campbell County choirs just had an incredible ‘Camels on Broadway’ performance.”

Sauerbeck said the project also fulfills the district’s focus pillar to provide world-class, innovative pathways and spaces.

“We are excited about the auditorium lighting and what it will mean for our students,” Sauerbeck said.
