The Independence Fire District will offer both free and paid certified training in CPR and the operation of automated external defibrillators, or AEDS, on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Independence Senior Center on Jackwoods Parkway.

The first part of the event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, will consist of so-called Take-10 CPR and AED training, which is designed to offer quick, easy to understand training in CPR and AEDs. This part of the training is free and does not provide certification. No registration is required.

The second part of the event, which will take place from 12 noon to 2 p.m., is a more in-depth training course on CPR and AEDs. Attendees will come away from the training with knowledge of adult, child and infant live-saving techniques. This training costs $60 and provides a two-year certification.

The fire district also offers CPR and other emergency service training courses throughout the year on an appointment basis. Sign up for courses using the district’s online contact form and learn more about the event on Jan. 27 at the fire district’s Facebook page.
