The city of Elsmere recognized police officer Amber Ford for her efforts in combating impaired driving at their Dec. 12 council meeting.
According to Elsmere Police Chief Russell Wood, Elsmere has seen 24 driving violations this year, 12 of which have been attended to by officer Ford.
In recognition of her hard work and dedication, the police chief presented Ford with an award in collaboration with Elsmere Mayor Marty Lenhof. Ford’s mother, father and niece were present at the meeting for the award ceremony.
“I want to thank Elsmere city just for acknowledging my hard work, especially Chief Wood. I continue to work hard, and next year’s going to be 13,” Ford said, referring to the number of arrests she had made.
Ford’s recognition came amid several new developments in the Elsmere Police Department, which recently welcomed its first Latino officer, Oscar Sanchez. He came to Elsmere from Georgetown Police Department and specializes in Latino community relations, Chief Wood said.
