Simon Kenton’s Nehemiah Kaai and Ryle’s Heather Kidd have earned the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Region Player and Coach of the Year awards.
Announced Tuesday afternoon, the two were voted on by KVCA member coaches and will be honored at the KHSAA state tournament at George Rogers Clark on May 16 in between the semifinal matches.
Kaai has helped lead the Pioneers to a 9-4 record in their inaugural season. He leads the team in kills (201), digs (123) and aces (57) as they head into their region quarterfinal matchup against North Oldham on Wednesday. His 201 kills are 12th in the state and 59 aces are tied for ninth in the state.

Kidd is in her first season as head coach of the Raiders as they look to repeat as region champs. She’s guided them to a 14-3 record and 10-0 in region play. They face Collins on Tuesday in the region tournament quarterfinals.
