Newport on the Levee is continuing its revitalization efforts, this time by adding Immersive Gamebox, a social gaming and entertainment business.
Set to open in August next to Tom & Chee, Immersive Gamebox allows players to use their bodies as controllers by placing them inside of “gameboxes.”
These gameboxes feature touchscreen walls, surround sound systems and projection mapping, immersing the player inside the game they’re playing. Players wear 3D motion tracking visors instead of virtual reality headsets.
Fifteen games are offered in the Immersive Gamebox library, including titles from popular franchises like Angry Birds and Squid Games. Teams of two to six players compete against each other in 30 to 60-minute games.
“Immersive Gamebox brings people together through shared play in a way that no other business does, and we can’t wait to make our debut in Kentucky,” Immersive Gamebox Senior Vice President of Retail Operations Steve McAloon said in a press release. “Newport on the Levee is becoming the go-to entertainment destination for the community, and we needed to be a part of that mix.”
Co-founded in 2018 by Will Dean and David Spindler, the San Francisco-based company operates 20 locations across the United States, Europe, Middle East and Asia. The company is growing rapidly and is on pace to open over 100 global locations within the next year. Their Newport on the Levee location will be the company’s first brick-and-mortar location in Kentucky.
Immersive Gamebox is joining a lineup of various other businesses coming to Newport on the Levee in 2023. The list includes 16 Lots Brewing Company, Amador, The Brickery Café and Play and The Galley on the Levee. In addition, Uber Freight is opening a 20,000-square-foot office space in The Gallery.
“We have so many exciting additions coming, and Immersive Gamebox will fit right in with the experience-driven entertainment options available to our guests,” said Gabriella Burch, Newport on the Levee’s general manager. “It will be a great place for the community to escape digitally while making memories IRL on the Levee.”
