At the Jan. 5 Alexandria City Council meeting, city council member Susan Vanlandingham updated the city’s new Future Planning Committee, previously known as the Beautification Committee.
According to Vanlandingham, the committee’s primary purpose is to evaluate the potential development of land in the city and to identify their zoning.
The other purpose of the committee is to decide what type of development would be best for land should it be purchased. Vanlandingham said this would help them direct developers to the best area for their proposed projects.
“It’s going to be centered on all things growth, so it will have that as the general objective,” Alexandria City Administrator David Plummer said.
She also said the committee would be able to evaluate how developments affect surrounding neighborhoods and residents.
Vanlandingham chose to chair the Future Planning Committee at their city council meeting. Council members Stacey Graus and Kyle Sparks are the other members of the committee.Â
