Dayton Police Chief David Halfhill recently graduated from the FBI National Academy Associates Leadership Certification Program.
The nationally recognized certification program develops and enhances leadership skills of law-enforcement professionals across the country, preparing them to lead organizations in an ever-evolving public-safety environment.
The certification program provides advanced leadership education through a series of specialized courses focused on modern leadership strategies, organizational culture and real-world leadership challenges.
“Chief Halfhill has been a dedicated member of the Dayton Police Department for more than 10 years, and during that time, he has continuously pursued new leadership training opportunities to expand his knowledge as an executive law-enforcement officer,” Dayton Mayor Ben Baker said. “The city of Dayton encourages our team members to grow professionally and to continually improve their skillsets, which chief Halfhill has done through FBI and other leadership training programs.”
In 2004, Halfhill completed of all three levels of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association law-enforcement leadership training classes, which involves completion of the association’s Supervisor Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute, and Executive Leadership Institute training programs, known as “the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy series.”
Halfhill also has completed the Southern Police Institute’s Chief Executive Leadership Course and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2018 as well as advanced leadership programs through the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training. Including the Academy of Police Supervision, Criminal Justice Executive Development, Professional Executive Command Course, and Values-Based Leadership training.
He is also an active member of the Criminal Justice Executive Development Leadership Association, an organization that helps identify and select candidates for advanced leadership education opportunities in Kentucky.
Halfhill said that leadership development training is an important tool for law-enforcement executives to undertake, which he said creates more effective and efficient law-enforcement agencies.
“I see the value in improving myself as a leader, which helps provide guidance and expertise to the police officers I work with every day in our city,” Halfhill said. “If you want to change what’s going on around you, you need to change what’s going on within you, and these leadership programs help you do just that.”
