The Bellevue board of education announced Thursday that Misty Middleton was named the next superintendent of Bellevue Independent Schools.
Middleton currently holds the same position at Williamstown Independent Schools in Grant County.
She replaces Robb Smith who departs on July 1 after eight years on the job. Smith is joining the Kentucky Association of Educational Cooperatives as the “director of deeper learning.”
Middleton has served as superintendent in Williamstown for the past six years and has spent a total of 19 years in the district, teaching elementary classes, directing Head Start/preschool, supervising instruction, and serving as assistant superintendent previously.
Prior to joining Williamstown, Middleton spent eight years as an elementary school teacher with Grant County Schools.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Middleton to the Bellevue family,” said Bellevue Board of Education Chairperson Jenn Owens, in an announcement. “Her passion for public education and infectious positivity are a natural fit for our district, allowing us to launch the Bellevue Classroom to the next level.”
Middleton’s contract was approved by the board of education at a special meeting on Wednesday. She starts on July 1.
In an announcement, Middleton said that she is excited to join Bellevue and looks forward to meeting students, staff, and a families.
She is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University and earned a master’s degree from Georgetown College before receiving a rank-one teaching certification and superintendent’s certificate from Eastern Kentucky Universiry.
She is involved in a variety of professional organizations, including the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents (KASS), the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA), and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). She is also the incoming president of the Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services (NKCES).
Middleton and her husband Greg have two daughters.
