Some Boone County residents received a message to shelter in place Tuesday night when a high-speed police chase made its way through the area.

A message to residents around 10:30 p.m. warned of “heavy police presence in the area of Richwood Road and Interstate 75.” The message said police were looking for two subjects who fled on foot after “being involved in a stolen vehicle pursuit.” The text also told residents the suspects “are possible armed,” and asked them to stay where they were until the threat was over.

Chris Hall, of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, told LINK nky the chase started in Gallatin County and involved Kentucky State Police.

“The Kentucky State Police initiated a pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Gallatin County that did enter Boone County last night around 10 p.m.,” Hall wrote in an email. “The vehicle did crash and both occupants fled on foot. Our units assisted with a perimeter and search of the area where both were located, and none of our units were involved in the pursuit at any time.”

Hall said the text to residents “was simply a precautionary measure to alert citizens of the heavy police presence in the area.”

Kentucky State Police Post 5 handled the arrests and recovery of the stolen vehicles, Hall said.
