The Enzweiler Building Institute of the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky conferred certificates at their graduation ceremony on April 21. Thirty four skilled tradespeople graduated from the institute during their commencement for the 2021-2022 school year.
During the commencement ceremony, the institute named Karen Ely, a second-year carpentry student, student of the year. Ely, a 2013 graduate of Oldham County High School, was selected based on her commitment to introducing young people to the skilled trades.

“We frequently have school groups visit Enzweiler,” BIA Director of Professional Development Vicki Berling said. “Whenever possible, Karen would talk to the students about the benefits of working in the skilled trades. She often showed them how to use basic hand tools. Most recently, she worked with 12 Girl Scouts and helped them build birdhouses. She is a great role model and so enthusiastic about opportunities in the trades, especially opportunities for women.”

The ceremony was highlighted by a presentation from Greg Zick, Associate Vice President of Workforce Development of the National Association of Home Builders. An address was also made by Shad Sletto, Al. Neyer Director of Real Estate Services and BIA Vice President.

Ely’s tuition at Enzweiler Building Institute was paid by Expert Irrigation through a scholarship that offers full-time employment coupled with tuition payment. Ely has elected to continue her employment at Expert Irrigation where is she now the Sales Director.
