Chris Courtney was honored at Tuesday’s Boone County Fiscal Court meeting for his seven years as director of government and community relations.

Courtney, a U.S. Navy veteran, created an innovative citizens academy named ENGAGE that aimed to educate the citizens of Boone County on their local government and partner agencies while creating opportunities for involvement.

He has also served as a leader through his parish, political activism, mentoring and coaching. He is married to his wife, Katie, and father to Ben, Aaron and Cara.

Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore announced that the court celebrated Courtney on March 23 and proclaimed it as Chris Courtney Day.

Moore also shared that while Courtney is leaving his current position, his time with the county is not finished.

“Chris has been a valuable member of the team for so long,” Moore said. “Our work isn’t done. We’ll still be doing things together.”

Moore introduced Tara Johnson-Noem, executive director of the Northern Kentucky area development district who will be working closely with Courtney. Courtney shared his excitement to work with her in his new position and gave thanks for the last seven years.

“I’ve been really grateful to work with you guys and all of the staff for the last seven years,” Courtney said. “I’ll still be serving Boone County, just in a different role. I’m really excited to work with Tara and her team. Thank you for everything guys.”
