The Boone County Library received two grants from the Kentucky Arts Council to support its arts programs.

The grants will support three artists, who will use the funding for free performances and arts programs, including a summer concert and a creative residency for older adults.

The Boone County Public Library Foundation’s Kentucky Touring Grant 2027 will support the Library’s popular Summer Concert Series, which will feature Appalatin, a well-known band that mixes Appalachian folk traditions with Latin American music.

In addition, the foundation’s grant will fund a performance by Shuling Fister, an acclaimed Chinese classical and folk dancer. After the performance, attendees will be invited to join an interactive fan dance workshop for a hands-on experience of Chinese culture.

A second grant from the Kentucky Arts Council Creative Chapters Library Program, awarded to Boone County Public Library, will bring teaching artist Dan Burkey to the Walton Branch for a six-session creative residency.

This program is designed for adults aged 55 and older who face isolation or memory loss. Participants will engage in personal storytelling and improvisational theater to create stories based on their experiences. The residency will conclude with a showcase for family and friends.

“We are grateful to the Kentucky Arts Council for investing in arts programming that enriches the lives of our community,” Boone County Library Public Service Director Dawna Bach said in a news release. “These grants allow us to offer meaningful cultural experiences that bring people together, celebrate diverse traditions and inspire creativity.”

The Boone County Library will announce dates and registration information for these free programs at a later date on its website and social media channels.

The Kentucky Arts Council, a state arts agency, receives funding for the 2027 Touring Grant program, including state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
