The Covington Academy of Heritage Trades is set to receive a $9,250 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The money will help repair the structural integrity of the roof and rafters at 1515 Madison Ave., a historic building in Covington that serves as the academy’s learning lab. According to a press release from the Building Industry of Northern Kentucky, the roof replacement kicks off in the fall and should be completed by the end of the year.
Once complete, the building will serve as an educational hub, allowing students to gain practical, hands-on learning experience in the heritage trades.
“We are incredibly grateful to the National Trust for Historic Preservation for their support,” President of the Covington Academy of Heritage Trades Brian Miller said in a press release. “This grant will not only help us preserve a critical piece of Covington’s history but also empower our students with the skills they need to protect and restore historic buildings across our community.”
The academy, based at the Enzweiler Building Institute’s training facility in Latonia, teaches traditional building and preservation trades such as carpentry, masonry and staining glass.
