The last independently owned pharmacy in Fort Thomas has abruptly closed.
In a series of notes taped to the window of the business, owner and pharmacist Craig Seither outlined “continued economic pressures” placed on retail pharmacies as a reason for the closure.
“I am saddened that contractually I was restricted from saying goodbye in person,” the note reads. “Please know that I loved talking with you over the years and hearing your stories. I feel like I was in the presence of family.”
Seither has owned the business for 16 years, taking the over the longtime community staple in October 2007. The pharmacy originally opened in the 1930s and has served Fort Thomas for over 75 years. Seither thanked the city, patients, customers, coworkers and manager in an announcement posted on the front of the business Tuesday evening.
Fort Thomas Drug Center is transferring all prescription files to the Walgreens at 1601 Monmouth St. in Newport.
In one note, Seither detailed how busy the pharmacy was on a day-to-day basis, saying it was “the busiest we have ever been since I have owned the business for the past 16 years.”
The notes go on to detail financial pressures that led to the closure, concluding by thanking the community.
“I hope I have represented the profession of pharmacy well over the years,” it finishes. “In closing, thank you for allowing me and my wonderful staff to serve you. It was an honor. Best of health to everyone, and I hope to see you in my next chapter.”
