Boone County will host a historic marker dedication for the old Boone County Courthouse today, Thursday, May 12. 

The old Boone County Courthouse was completed in 1889. Louisville architects McDonald Brother designed the structure, and the McGarvey Brothers of Cincinnati built it. The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 as an element of the Burlington Historic District in Boone County. 

The marker that will be dedicated on Thursday afternoon comes from the Kentucky Historical Marker program, which allows communities in the Commonwealth to recognize and share local history. 

The dedication is scheduled for 4 p.m. on the grounds of the old courthouse at 2988 Washington Street in Burlington. The public is also welcome to a companion event, the 2022 Boone County Historic Preservation Awards ceremony, which will take place inside the courthouse on the second floor at 5:30 p.m.
