A great December wasn’t enough to keep Vito’s Cafe open for a 13th year. The Italian eatery, who was famous for it’s “singing servers,” currently has a message on its outgoing voicemail stating that they are on vacation and will resuming regular business on January 16th.
That will not be the case.
Vito’s Cafe has always been one of Fort Thomas’ highest rated restaurants. A 3.5 (out of 5) rating on Yelp, 84% on Urban Spoon, awards from OpenTable.com, as well as high reviews from The Enquirer’s Polly Campbell have been highlights for Vito and Mary.
A source close to the situation cited competition from newer restaurants in Newport and Cincinnati as a reason for the closure. Recently long-time Covington restaurant, Chez Nora, closed its doors after 20 years in the Mainstrasse Village.
It’s no secret these next 3 months are the absolute toughest on restaurants, which is why you see many closing at this time in the year. It’s a sad day for Fort Thomas, but all the more reason to continue to patronize your LOCAL eateries.
