The Simple Portrait Project (TSPp) is coming back to NKY, OCT 26- NOV 27 2023. Since 2008 TSPp has been capturing families and leaving them with both a beautiful image and a reminder to live fully in their present season.
What is so special about TSPp? It’s fast, fun, and unlike any other family portrait offering anywhere! TSPp has magically taken most of the pain points out of a family session and turned it into something even dads and teenagers look forward to. It has become a can’t miss tradition for hundreds of families city-wide!
At the heart of this project lies the understanding that every family holds a wealth of history, experiences, and emotions and through their lens, they emphasize the subtle nuances that make us who we are, championing the notion that behind every family, there is a powerful narrative waiting to be told. TSPp is a portrait experience like no other that creates a place for families to feel seen, celebrated, and connected.
It began in 2008…by accident. Creator, founder, and Ft Thomas resident, Jonathan Willis (affectionately known as JONBOB), came up with the TSPp concept as a way to assuage the friends who kept asking “Can you take our family pics?!”. Finally, he said yes…but it had to be done differently. “The goal must be quality and not quantity and it needs to be fast-paced and beautiful.”
By limiting the experience to just one light, 20 minutes, simple propping (chairs and boxes), and immediate, on-site editing, families would leave with their final images the day of. Turns out, it was a hit! What started with 32 families has grown for the past 15 years, serving over 700+ families over a 4-week period each Fall. They are now preparing to launch their 16th year of sessions which run from OCT 27 through NOV 26.
Let’s be honest, getting pictures with babies, toddlers…and, ahem, teens can be a challenge, but it’s one TSPp is ready to take on. The experience is set to put families at ease from the moment they walk in the door where they are greeted by a friendly face offering snacks for the kids, juice boxes, drinks, and a special cocktail for Mom and Dad.
The photographers know how to keep things moving without sweating the small stuff. The beauty of capturing your family as they are means no one has to pretend. You can show up, be who you are, and find that beauty in the images captured. After your 20-minute session, your family works with an editor who guides you through the process of finding the best images from your session and then you’re on your way.
