To keep up with the rest of the region, Alexandria is looking at increasing pay scales for certain positions within the city to be attractive to new recruits.
The first reading of an ordinance was read at the city’s April 6 regularly scheduled meeting, which, if passed, would redefine the pay range for the outlined positions.
This effort was brought forth by the city’s personnel committee, which is set in place to advise the council on personnel policies and practices.
“We met early on in February, and at the time, we were having issues with new recruits, and that’s what started this whole conversation,” Alexandria City Administrator David Plummer said.
Because this was the first reading, no action will be taken until the second reading at the council’s April 20 meeting.
Plummer said the city received information from the Kentucky Area Development District that did a study on similar positions across all municipal governments in Northern Kentucky.
“We applied some of that logic to our pay scales and made some minor changes to some additional administrative employee positions as well,” Plummer said.
This ordinance is not the city council voting for pay raises; it will define the pay range for the named positions.
The job titles in the ordinance that would receive a pay scale change include the following:
