The City of Covington will hold a public hearing related to regulating short-term rentals in the city from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 12 at the Carnegie Arts Center on Scott Boulevard.
City commissioners and other public officials will be present to listen to residents’ comments and field questions. All Covington residents may attend. Attendees will be limited to three minutes of speaking time. Residents may also submit questions and comments in writing at the city’s online survey page.
“We want to hear from as many people as possible so as to deepen our understanding of the community’s experiences with short-term rentals and the impact their recent proliferation has had on Covington’s neighborhoods,” City Manager Ken Smith said in a press release from the city.
The Covington city commission recently passed an ordinance escalating penalties against short-term rental landlords who fail to comply with city licensing requirements.
More public hearings related to the issue will occur later in the month. Dates and times for subsequent public hearings have not been released.
