After four seasons at the helm of the Scott football team, Eric Turner has resigned.
Turner compiled a 21-22 record and won two Class 4A, 6th district titles during his tenure.
“After a lot of debate with my wife and family, it came down to personal reasons. Big one is health reasons. Had a surgery a year and a half ago that was very dicey. Should have went smoothly and it didn’t, ever since then health-wise I’ve been trying to get back on my feet,” Turner said. “Just health-wise, it’s the best thing I needed to do right now.”
The Eagles went 4-7 in the 2022 season, losing to Lexington Catholic in the first round of the playoffs.
“Scott High School would like to thank Coach Turner for his time and service to the Scott High School community. In his time at Scott High School, Coach Turner has touched the lives of numerous student-athletes,” the Athletic Department released in a statement on Twitter Wednesday.
The Eagles will graduate a lot of production with their 19 seniors, including top rusher Bennie Hill with 1,448 yards and 17 touchdowns as well as quarterback Dasani Lane, who threw for 732 yards and 10 touchdowns. One of Lane’s top targets in Nolan Hunter is also a senior, Hunter with 24 receptions for 324 yards and five touchdowns. The top four tacklers on the team in Tim Stephenson, Aaron Cummins, Treyvon Brown and Emmanuell Mills are also seniors.
“These guys won two district championships and I think there’s only five in school history,” Turner said. “The relationships that we made, we always talk about family and built a lot of bonds that will last forever. I don’t just speak it, I practice it as well. All these guys know I’ll be a phone call or text away.”
They do return top receiving target Dylan Giffen and his 26 receptions for 322 yards and six touchdowns along with Boomer Klusman who led the team with three interceptions.
The head coach opening has been posted to the KHSAA website.
In the recent KHSAA enrollment report to reflect football realignment for 2023-26, Scott is in line to move up to 5A according to the enrollment data. They’ll find out what district they are in and get more clarity come the next KHSAA Board of Control meeting scheduled for January 18. Alignment is expected to be fully finalized by February 21.
