A Boone County student is a winner in the Kentucky Secretary of State’s statewide essay contest.
Secretary of State Michael G. Adams asked high school students to respond to the question, “What changes should Kentucky make to its election system, and why?”
Winners were selected in grades 9 through 12.
Jonathan Brewer, a sophomore at Cooper High School who also attends Ignite Institute, was the tenth grade winner.
Brewer is the son of Boone County Commissioner Jesse Brewer.
In his essay, Jonathan Brewer wrote about the need for early voting but limiting it to only a few days as opposed to a month, while also possibly opening some drive-through voting options.
Adams presented the awards last week.
Brewer was the only winner from Northern Kentucky.
