Welcome House of Northern Kentucky announced Thursday that it received another $40,000 grant from Anthem Medicaid.
The funds will help the Covington-based agency build upon its service to people ages 18 to 24 experiencing homelessness.
It is the second $40,000 grant from Anthem Medicaid for Welcome House since October.
The program provides housing subsidies, access to food and hygiene items, and addition services related to employment, training, and life skills.
The grant from Anthem Medicaid has already allowed Welcome House to purchase a home in Covington to be used for transitional housing.
“We are grateful to be able to provide this service to one of the most vulnerable homeless populations in our area,” says Danielle Amrine, CEO of Welcome House. “Because of these funds from Anthem Medicaid, we are able to stably house transitional age youth who are experiencing homelessness and really stop them from becoming chronically homeless.”
In 2018, Welcome House expanded its services to include transitional age youth ages 18 to 24.
The transitional age youth program, called Opportunity Youth Housing Initiative, is comprised of a service coordinator providing services to the youth who will reside in the home purchased through the Anthem Medicaid funding in Covington, Kentucky. Welcome House is one of the few non-profits that provide housing as well as services to this vulnerable age population.
“Anthem has a long-standing commitment to supporting consumers through partnerships that can help address key social barriers and economic disparities to help improve their health,” said Leon, Lamoreaux, Anthem Kentucky Medicaid plan president. “We are honored to continue our work with such a tremendous partner like Welcome House, as together we can make a positive difference in the communities we serve.”
Anthem Medicaid also opened a customer service office within the Welcome House to help support its consumers in the Northern Kentucky area. Anthem Medicaid consumers now have access to an on-site associate who can help them navigate available Medicaid resources, as well as increased access to education, training and career resources.
