The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) announced $309,946 in grant funding awards for landscaping, walking trails, and pour-in-place surfacing projects that utilize recycled waste tires.Â
The grants are from the Waste Tire Trust Fund, established by the 1998 Kentucky General Assembly to receive a $1 fee from each retail sale of a new tire in the state. The fund helps manage the approximately 5 million scrap tires generated in Kentucky each year and promotes the development of markets for recycled tire products. Â
Local recipients include Williamstown Independent Schools and Pendleton County Fiscal Court.
The school district was awarded $6,660 for work at a nature trail at Williamstown Junior/Senior High School.
The fiscal court received $6,248 for landscaping work at the courthouse square.
