Well, this appears to be settled.
Northern Kentucky University announced this week that it has selected a permanent look for Victor E. Viking, the Norse mascot.
The 10-year old Viking suit had fallen into disrepair but when NKU released an updated look to the ferocious Victor, which presented him as a more approachable and pleasant guy, there was an uproar. The university went back to the drawing board and requested input from students and the community.
Following a five-day voting period, Victor E. Viking’s costume will consist of Victor’s original head with the redesigned body.
Approximately 7,000 individual responses were received, with 59 percent choosing the option of the original head with the new body. 34 percent of respondents voted for the original suit, while 7 percent voted for the new.
For the remainder of the academic calendar, NKU Athletics will utilize the original head with the new suit at all athletics and community events.
At the conclusion of the academic calendar, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will coordinate with NKU’s Student Government Association and the designer, Olympus Group in Milwaukee, Wisc., to recreate Victor’s original head.
