In the age of instant political analysis, even the local level is subject to some pretty clever satire.

Last summer, The River City News office was obsessed  with a parody account that emerged in the wake of the Kim Davis-Rowan County-Gay Marriage issues. “Sit Next to Kim Davis” gave a fictional digital life to the woman photographed behind the counter at the Rowan County Clerk’s office while Davis refused to comply with the new same-sex marriage law.

The profanity-laced Twitter feed became the darling of social media and accumulated an astounding 90,000 followers, including national personalities.

Meanwhile, back in Covington, our own anti-gay would-be elected official, Clayton Shull, inspired his own parody Twitter account. Shull, a first-time candidate, identified himself as a “Christian, far-right” choice for city commission, and spoke out against the city’s human rights ordinance that extends legal protections to gay people. He took particular exception to apartment owners being required to rent to gay people if the applicants are qualified.

In a bizarre podcast with RCN’s Michael Monks – RCN’s most listened-to podcast ever – Shull confessed that he doesn’t go to church, doesn’t know where the city’s pools are, and is generally ignorant about issues facing the city. His refrain, “I’m not perfect”, inspired the #NotPerfect hashtag in many of the parody tweets.

And after the results came in on Tuesday night, showing that Shull finished in a distant last place:

So, what’s Shull up to now? He stopped by RCN’s office on Wednesday and said he’s inspired to start a group that would work to overturn Roe v Wade and to fight Covington’s apartment rental guidelines. He wants to talk about it, so stay tuned.
