On the heels of his announcement that he will dress as a woman in support of Caitlyn Jenner, the transgender woman once known as Olympian Bruce Jenner, former Major League Baseball star Jose Canseco is also coming to Florence.
He’ll compete in a Home Run Derby at UC Health Stadium between games in the Florence Freedom’s double-header on Wednesday, August 5.
Canseco confirmed this week that he will assume the identity of a woman for seven days, as reported by The New York Daily News:
“In the very beginning, I didn’t understand it, so I was kind of like, against it,” said Canseco. “Once I watched it more and more, and realized what it really entailed, what he was going through, I started supporting him.”

The former Yankee was tight-lipped about what he hopes his decision to don lipstick and leggings will accomplish.
“Once it’s completely done, I will be dressing up and living as a woman for a week,” he said. “I’m talking about full everything.”
The slugger declined to elaborate.

Canseco, 51, will face Freedom field manager Dennis Pelfrey, Freedom All-Star first baseman Sam Eberle, Kevin Dusold (winner of the Save Discount Drugs Home Run Derby Tryout), and WKRC-TV report Adam Clements.
The big league slugger will also go head-to-head with softball great Tim Cocco in a softball home run derby.
The Florence Freedom take on the Normal CornBelters in the double-header starting at 5:35 p.m.
Canseco is available for private meet-and-greets at a cost of $50 (click here) and he will also sign Freedom memorabilia ($25), sign Freedom memorabilia and take a photo ($30), autograph any non-Freedom personal item ($40), and take a photo after signing the non-Freedom personal item ($45).
