Thomas More Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jeff Hans earned his 100th career win as the No. 2-ranked Saints defeated Waynesburg, 109-75, today (Saturday, January 24, 2015) in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 17-0 and 10-0 in the PAC. The win also increases Hans’ career record at Thomas More to 100-8 (.926) in four season in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in the PAC.
Thomas More used 56.8 percent shooting from the field (25-of-44) and 19 Waynesburg turnovers to race out to a 74-23 lead at halftime. The 74 points is the most points scored in a half in Thomas More history, breaking the previous mark of 70 points that was set last season against Westminster College.
Waynesburg out-scored the Saints 52-35 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as Thomas More cruised to the 109-75 victory.
In seven PAC home games, Thomas More is outscoring the opposition 98.3 points per game to 49.2 points per game for a +49.2 scoring margin.
Five Saints finished with double-figures led by senior guard Sydni Wainscott (Erlanger, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 19 points. Joining her in double-figures was junior guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) with 16 points, junior forward Alex Santamaria (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) with 15 points, sophomore forward Kirsten Paul (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) with 11 points and senior guard Stephanie Krusling (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) with 10 points. Paul just missed a double-double as she pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, while freshman forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) had eight rebounds. Freshman guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) led the team in assists with six.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (January 28) when it hosts Grove City College at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
