COVINGTON, Ky. — A
patriotic community celebration featuring music, inspirational speeches and a
21-gun salute will commemorate Veterans Day at Behringer-Crawford Museum on Nov. 8 at 10:00 a.m.
BCM has
formed a partnership with the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame (KVHOF) and
Gateway Community and Technical College focused on honoring the state’s
military veterans. KVHOF is a not-for-profit foundation founded in 2012 to
recognize Kentucky veterans from all eras who have served honorably in the
Armed Forces and have come home to further serve their communities in
significant ways.
Inductees are elected annually through a nomination process
and are honored annually at a statewide banquet and award ceremony.
The
Veterans Day ceremony will coincide with the unveiling of a BCM exhibit
featuring current Hall of Fame inductees from Northern Kentucky, including Ronald Allari,
Alexandria; Charles Brandon Bailey, Florence; William Cappel, Burlington;
H.B. Deatherage, Ft. Mitchell; Lee Frakes, Walton; Joseph
Kalil, Florence; Donald Kirkpatrick, Burlington; Alvin Poweleit,
Florence; William Rachford, Alexandria, and Robert Williams,
Independence.
Â
The
display is the first of a series of panels and kiosks developed by BCM and
Gateway to be installed in museums and colleges around the state.
The
ceremony is free and will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. It is open to the
public.
H.B. Deatherage, chairman of the KVHOF board, will welcome guests.
Speakers will include Gary Griesser, KVHOF executive board member, and Gateway
President Dr. G. Edward Hughes. The program will include a flag-raising and
21-gun salute by the Florence Police Department, bagpipe and the playing of
“Taps.”
All veterans
and their families as well as community members are invited to attend.
The
museum is located at 1600 Montague Road-Devou Park, Covington, Kentucky.
